After Morocco, we decided to go to Switzerland for Christmas and spend some quality time with family and friends. 🎄

It was a short stay, and as usual, it was packed. We tried to make the most of it, knowing it’s never really clear when the next visit will be possible. For now, we’ve been able to see most of the family every 3-6 months, which we feel very fortunate about and is also important to us.

We were really excited to go to Switzerland, mostly because we were hoping for snow. Well, okay, Noah wasn’t too excited, lol.

But Yuma was thrilled. ❄️

Soon, it was time to say goodbye again, and we got ready for our big adventure. ~ A new continent awaited us. 🌴

🎤 Also, Noah delivered the most iconic karaoke show for New Year’s Eve.

people tend to think that just because we travel full time, means that we have crazy travel plans, hopp from one adventure to the next one and see the whole world in 24 hours. just like instagram shows you that this is what evety traveller does. it‘s quite the opposite actually!

we live a relative „normal“ day to day life, we just do it in different countries from time to time. we get up, we work, we cook, we hangout at home, we go to the beach. 1-2 times per week we do „bigger“ exploration and are activly searching adventure.

last week we did a hike through the dunes and by the end of the day we spotted some 🐪.

our neighbor @_soul_spaces_ brought home some pumpkins, we gathered the kids and started carving. after finishing our kids pumpkins we then made a wonderful pumpkin soup over the fire and enjoy the rest of the night in circle. 🔥 🥘 In the meantime the kids played dress up and other games. like throwing stones into a bucket. until they took it too far and broke it with the size of the stones they were throwing 🌚

after 2 weeks we feel like we adapted to our new life here. now it‘s more fascinating that overwhelming. we have found our groove and now we can enjoy the beauty of this land.

we were told that this region we are currently in is windy, it it‘s actually called the wind city. we registered that but somehow ignored it. so coming here we realized pretty quickly that‘s actually VERY windy! 🤓

we arrived in morocco a few days ago. quite a contrast to our previous months, because we spent summer in switzerland with family.

first few days, maybe even weeks, we take it very slow. we are in no rush, so in those days we spent a lot of time at home. letting our self fully arrive on all levels. so day by day we emerged out of our cocon and blend woth our surroundings. 🏜️

It’s been a little quiet here. It’s been two months since we last posted anything. Life happened at such a pace that we had no time to keep our socials updated.

These past two months have been wild and beautiful, but too much for us to keep up with. So, we’ll leave you with a few beautiful pictures from earlier times.🏝️

It’s been a wild ride, and we’ve loved every bit of it. We’ve been in Switzerland for a few weeks now, visiting family and enjoying their company.

A friend asked us if the thought of just going home ever came up during our travels. Funnily enough, that thought never crossed our minds. There were times when we missed our recent destination and its advantages, but never our old home.

We don’t know where we’ll head to next, but we’ve decided to leave our car in Switzerland and hop on a few planes over the next few months. In mid-September, our next chapter begins, and we’ll try to keep you posted 😉✈️

This new place has treated us really well. But funnily enough, before we found this house, it was the place we were least looking forward to. Everyone told us that southern Spain is hot and overcrowded with tourists.

We chose this spot because we had to leave Portugal and didn’t want to travel too far. Also, we wanted to be close to an airport because, after this stop, we would fly back to Switzerland for the summer. So Andalusia was the geographic location that made the most sense.

Renting during this period did not look promising. We felt the high season prices that did not match our budget and needs. We had already accepted the fact that we would be in a place we wouldn’t really like. So I just hoped it would be over soon and we could move on. Then Noah found an Airbnb that looked absolutely gorgeous. It was way overpriced and seemed too good for us to afford. But we pitched it anyway. I mean, there was nothing to lose.

The hosts are the nicest people ever, and they gladly accepted our deal. We then booked a house that was the nicest we have ever had on our trip. We were incredibly excited.

When we arrived one week ago, it felt like a dream. The house, the surroundings, and the hosts are just wonderful. Also, the area itself was not at all like people had described it to us.

So, all in all, this change and stay have been very pleasant. But what we surely miss is the sense of family and community we were surrounded by back in Portugal. There is a type of isolation and loneliness we experience. Two weeks more, and then Santemi’s brother comes to visit. Two more weeks, and then we all fly back to Switzerland to spend the summer with family.

~ today it‘s day 220 of being a full time traveling family ~

200 days – just like that. Only one year ago, the idea of this kind of life was almost absurd, and now it's just life. I would be repeating myself if I told you that everything felt much easier than expected once we took action, so I'll share a few fun facts about this journey instead:

It took almost 200 days to cancel my Swiss health insurance; I got the confirmation last week. Hallelujah. My driver's license has been expired for 11 days, so the current challenge is to get a new one. We bought a bicycle for Yuma as a birthday gift, which we are hiding in our car's trunk. We spent too much money on food – 1171 euros in April. I mean, what the heck? We still feel a bit cold sometimes. In 10 days, we will drive to our next destination in southern Spain. Prediction: It will be too hot.

~ Portugal: A Piece of Home? ~

We’ve now stayed in two very beautiful places with a wonderful community that feels like we could belong there.

So, a lot of people ask us whether we will move there or what our current plans are.

Both places we’ve lived in could easily be our home, we feel like. Most of our checkboxes are checked. But right now, we feel like it’s too early to settle. We are actually enjoying not having to decide where we want our family base and deal with the consequences. Both our hearts want the most possible freedom. We want to move whenever we feel like it.

So for now, we will stay a full-time traveling family, and we are very excited to see and learn more about the world.

Our memories of Portugal are secured, and we know that we have options as soon as we feel like we want to settle somewhere.

We will stay in Portugal until the end of May. After that, it’s goodbye, Portugal, for a while, and we will travel to southern Spain.

it took us two weeks to fully arrive at the new neighborhood. it were two hard weeks and there somehow still are. most of our routines and habits had to change. in the beginning it was just a burden, to adjust in various situations. now we can slowly see the beauty in a new environment again.

~ discovering new places, meeting new people and learn more about ourselves.

the new places offers more city vibes and we are looking forward to that.

ps. most of the times @demisantemi holds yuma and @noah.ayer holds the fuji. we are trying our best to switch this from time to time. but also this is just how it feels the most natural lol.

it‘s been two days since we left our recent home in aljezur (pt). after 3.5 months living off grid, everything else feels just very odd. it takes a lot of adjusting and settling in.

aljezur blessed us with an incredible time. we would definitely see us moving there permanently ~ but let‘s see what other places can give us. on to the next one!

our days on this beautiful land will come to an end in two weeks. we will then again move back up the coast.

we‘ve spent 3 months here. this period brought to light how we want to travel in general, what type of places we are interested in. also it very much settled why we left home in the first place.

we are so grateful to have spent this time here, to all the connections we have made and the things that were unfolded.

in case you were wondering. our current traveling serves a bigger purpose than to just travel and see the world. not that this isn‘t already a purpose big enough. 🧳

we long for community, we are traveling to find a new home base for us. where our family grows and lives with like minded people. we left our home country because we felt like this wasn‘t possible there.

families are not supposed to be separated. it serves no purpose, we are here go support and learn from another. and this is only possible if we live in community. so this picture represents the life we are longing for. 🤍

We arrived at our off-grid accommodation 1 month ago, where we’ll be staying until the end of March. It feels reassuring to have this time, allowing us to settle in and establish daily routines.

Adjusting to this new place has been a contrast to our previous accommodation. We’re now in a shelter with a compost toilet and a solar shower, although the weather hasn’t been favorable lately. We’ve had many no-shower days, and when we felt a bit too gross, a cold shower became our solution. With no central heating, the nights and mornings are cold – a lesson we won’t forget. Even if the locals claim it’s warm enough, it isn’t! So go with the heating.

Our shelter has a separate kitchen area shared with others, and the entire land is off the grid. The only spot with signal is the food shelter. Detoxing amidst the beauty of the forest and nature is a unique experience.

Work is now more intentional, as is our screen time. Without phone service throughout the day, we leave our phones behind, eliminating the constant urge to check social media. The lack of service makes me feel like my body is also not in service, in a positive way. It’s a beautiful feeling of being unplugged and present.

As we post this, we are currently in Sintra, Portugal, our seventh stop on our journey. We will be traveling further south this upcoming Sunday, marking our first extended stay of 3.5 months.

Up until now, we’ve been moving to a new location every week. While the experience has been beautiful and exciting, it has also been quite stressful. Searching for places to visit, looking for Airbnb accommodations, planning our travels, working, and simultaneously being there for Yuma 24/7 has been demanding. Despite enjoying the dynamic nature of our journey, we are eagerly anticipating a shift to a slower pace.

We often found ourselves with insufficient time to adequately prepare for our next destination. During Yuma’s nap time and evenings, we need to focus on our work, and when he’s awake it becomes challenging to be productive in researching the areas we are about to visit and finding activities to do.

Consequently, we frequently arrive at our new destination with no clear idea of where to go and what to do. It’s an adventure in itself, but we’re aware that we may have missed out on discovering numerous beautiful places simply because we were unaware of their existence.

We are looking forward to having more time ~ for everything. However, let’s be honest; there will likely come a time after this when we can’t wait to start exploring again. This is precisely the best part of this lifestyl ~ the ability to change dynamics whenever we want, and the freedom to constantly adapt our lives as needed.

💰 Money! Probably the number 1 reason not to start.

At least, it was the thing that kept us from starting our adventure earlier. Based on the reactions we got when we talked about our adventure, it's also the topic that raises the most questions from you. So here's a little insight into our financial situation. After starting our travel journey, we laughed about the fact that we were so scared about money (especially when you don't have kids; you can make money all day long). But yeah, we are only one month into our journey, so knocking on wood, let's see where the universe of coins and bills will bring us.

Time moves very quickly, and at times, it feels challenging to keep pace with all that is happening around us. We are incredibly grateful to embark on this new adventure and genuinely proud of ourselves for taking the leap. As we reflect on the past month, it seems as though we've always been on this journey.🦋

While many beautiful moments lie ahead, we are also navigating both new and familiar challenges.

We will have a little family gathering for Christmas in South Portugal. This occasion prompted our brief stays along the way – after all, we had to find our way down to the southern part of Portugal.

As the new year approaches, our pace will slow down, and we plan to stay in South Portugal for a minimum of three months. This decision allows us to fully immerse ourselves in the present experiences and embrace the reality of everyday life.

While preparing to leave and travel to our next destination, we took some time to reflect on our week spent here in Santander, Spain.

Overall, we had a great stay and were able to collect beautiful memories. However, it was not our favorite week nor our favorite stay. The arrival was somewhat challenging. As usual, we did not research the neighborhood of our apartment (we will focus on this in another post), so we had no clue where we were really staying. We landed in a suburban settlement—not a bad neighborhood, but there was nothing to do, and no nature within walking distance. This was something we were not used to. We usually spend most of our days outdoors, going back inside only for our yuma‘s nap and lunch/dinner. The rest of the time is usually spent outside. However, this time, we felt kind of stuck. We went out the door of our apartment, and there was nowhere to go with Yuma, nowhere for him to run around, play, and observe. There were only streets, cars, and a lot of concrete.

By car, everything was nearby. But every parent knows that going out by car is not just a quick trip; it feels like a whole mission. You plan, prepare, create a time schedule, and so on. It just didn't fit our daily routines, and we were kind of lost. Eventually, we found our groove and adapted, so by midweek, the overall mood was lighter and more enjoyable.

Through this experience, we weren't really able to connect with this city; no spark was ignited. We are now heading west towards Galicia and looking forward to our next stay back in the countryside.

A significant lesson was revealed within this trip. We now have a clearer idea of the environment we want to live in, what our surroundings should look like, and therefore, the kind of places we want to visit.

1 thing we can tick off our bucket list: visit Dune du Pilat 🤙🏽

noah already visited the Dunes at the age of 11. he had such fond memories of it that he really wanted to see it again with us. it was totally worth it. since i never went to the dessert this was very impressive for me.

and of course little yuma loved it. sand is his happy place 🌝

me and noah wanted to learn and practice some acro yoga. but it just was never my turn, since yuma always took the spot and wanted to try it with papa. so here is yuma‘s first flow. 🌝

A few days later than planned, but now we find ourselves already on our third apartment at the west coast of France.

After an incredibly intense last weekend in switzerland, during which we managed to organize two events, it quickly became clear that there wouldn't be enough time or energy to clean and hand over our apartment in just two days. So, we decided to take a deep breath and stay for two more days at our family's house. This allows us the time to take care of all the last-minute details, like converting Swiss Francs to Euros, creating backups of all our digital data, and actually finding a place to sleep before setting off on our journey.

Yes, we booked our first apartment less than 15 hours before embarking on this adventure. Yet, here we are, 10 days later, proudly calling ourselves full-time travelers!
